1) EXPLORE CITIES FOR FREE

Many travelers overlook this, but you can explore numerous big cities and their surrounding areas using free public transport and enjoy discounted rates for various attractions with city cards. For instance, if you have confirmed accommodation in Lucerne, your hotel or hostel will often provide a complimentary city card. This card allows you to travel for free within the city and surrounding areas. We also enjoyed heavily discounted travel from Lugano to Milan thanks to the Ticino card, included with our hostel booking, which provided free transport within the Ticino region. Similar cards are available for cities like Bern, Basel, Geneva, Lausanne, and Montreux. Our pro tip: Always inquire about city cards when booking accommodation—they can save you money and enhance your travel experience!
