So, the second day of exploring Copenhagen with the Copenhagen Card is packed with a lot of fun activities for both adults and kids. Thanks to the late sunsets in late May /early June(around 10 pm), you can explore and stay out even longer.
Here's a suitable Day 2 itinerary in Copenhagen:
1) City hall :
Start the day at this century-old headquarters of the municipal corporation in Copenhagen.
You can take a guided tour of the City Hall, which is included in the Copenhagen Card . Entry into the City Hall itself is free.
Additionally, several free and paid city walking tours start here. On the day we visited, there was a morning market in full swing, with everything from cute bowls to jewelry on sale.
2) Copenhagen train tour -
Experience the charm of Copenhagen with an old city train tour starting at City Hall. The train stops at 4 spots: Copenhagen Cathedral, Round Tower, Torvehallerne, and the canal, passing through historic parts of the old town where beautiful architecture surrounds you.
3) Round tower -
Hop off the train at the Round Tower stop. The Round Tower (Rundetaarn) is the oldest functioning observatory in Europe, dating back to the 17th century! It features a spiral walkway that leads you to the top of the tower, offering stunning views of Copenhagen city.
4) Rosenberg palace-
A castle built in the 17th century houses and displays art treasures and crown jewels. Located within King's Park and right in the city center, it's a beautiful place to spend an afternoon.
5) Geologisk museum (the natural history museum of Denmark) -
Right across the road from Rosenborg Castle is the Geologisk Museum. This was one of our favorite places we visited in Copenhagen!
The museum features several fossils on display, one of the largest collections of rocks and meteorites, and even a small piece of the moon! What impressed us the most, though, was the exhibit focused on butterflies and their conservation efforts. They have a station where kids (and adults like me) can sit and color butterfly drawings using a variety of color pencils provided. Additionally, there's a magnificent microscope for families to examine the intricate details of butterfly structures up close.
In my opinion, it's a perfect place for families with kids or nature enthusiasts of any age!
6) Butterfly garden-
After loving the butterfly exhibit at the Geological Museum, we decided to check out the butterfly garden—and it was amazing! There were hundreds of beautiful butterflies fluttering all around.
7) Canal boat tour -
After a long day of exploring on foot, it's time to unwind with a canal tour, giving your feet the much-needed rest while enjoying the architectural marvels of the city from the beautiful waters. Unlike other city river or canal cruises, we found this one-hour boat tour very interesting and informative about the history, architecture, and culture of Copenhagen.
During the tour, you can view landmarks such as the Opera House, Black Diamond Library, Amalienborg Palace, Christiansborg Palace, Nyhavn, and even the Little Mermaid from the canal. It's a relaxing and educational way to end your day in Copenhagen!
8) Tivoli -
Our last and final stop for the day was Tivoli Gardens. This amusement park, located opposite Central Station, is one of the oldest in the world and is said to have inspired Disney World. It features multiple rides and restaurants to suit all tastes.
Tivoli is especially beautiful at nighttime, with small lights sparkling everywhere, creating a truly magical experience. After enjoying a few rides and essential doses of ice cream, we were so tired that we didn't wait to experience the gardens at night. However, if you happen to visit Copenhagen, I highly recommend trying that!
Entrance to the garden is included in the Copenhagen card . However, you need to pay for the rides.
So that's how we spent two days exploring Copenhagen with the Copenhagen Card, and it definitely saved us a lot of money.
However, we missed out on many other attractions due to lack of time. But there's always a next time!
