Farmstays are an increasingly popular tourist accommodation option in Slovenia. They are like BnB, but also have a working farm, which is great for families with young children and also provide a chance to experience local life and culture and food up close. Most of the tourist farms are located in picturesque settings throughout Slovenia!
If you want to escape the busy city life and experience local culture and food, this could be the right option for you!
We decided to choose farmstay for our stay in Bled and Logar valley. Researched and booked two farmstays , one for our stay in BLED – pri selo bled village and another one at LOGARSKA – Robanav cot.
Read on to know more about our stay, what we loved, what do you need to remember when you choose off beat accommodation and feast your eyes in the process.
BLED – farmstay povsin – Selo Bled.
Location:
Located approximately 2 kms from lake bled which is about half an hour leisurely walk through the Selo village. Little far away from the city centre, another 2 km approximately (takes 45 mins walking). Ideal if you have a car. But we didn’t have one and didn’t find it a problem. The walk through Selo village is beautiful. There are farms along the road with fruit trees lining both sides.
Accommodation:
Our room was facing the farm. There were 3 beds – comfortable and clean. We reached earlier than check in time and our room was ready already. The bathroom is clean and basic. They do not supply toiletries so carry your own else buy from Mercator, located right opposite the bled lake on the way to the farm. Blankets are provided. Breakfast is available at the farm at an extra cost of 7 euros (it was included in our booking price as we booked through booking.com). We would highly recommend trying their breakfast. Quite a few options – fresh fruits, meats, cereals, bread, cake, eggs to order, homemade jams, cheese, nuts and coffee - yum and filling. There is a spacious outdoor seating available that we totally intended to use, but during our 2 days of stay we just didn’t find the time. There are a couple of swings for kids and a few toy tractors that they can ride around the property. They also have a kitchen that the guests can use.
Price :
The cost is approximately 60 to 80 euros for one night . If you book early and during off season you may find a better deal for this place.
Some special points to mention:
There are numerous similar homestays/farmstays in Selo village. Farmstay povsin is located at the far end of the village. So incase you want to avoid a walk and still want to keep the costs low, try other accommodation options in Selo village. These places are usually cheaper than the Bled city center accommodations and are located in such peaceful and beautiful surroundings! The fresh local food is just a bonus!
Incase you choose to walk back to your accommodation in SELO village after dinner – trust me its such an amazing experience! Walk under the stars! A memory to cherish ! And it is safe.
Logar valley: farmstay govc vrisnik – Robanav cot
Location:
It takes approximately 1.5 hours to reach here from Ljubljana and the route is beautiful. Located approximately 15 minutes drive from Logarska valley. Overlooking the beautiful Robanav mountain, this farm is surrounded by scenic and extremely peaceful surroundings. It It is best if you have your own vehicle, then you can make this your base and explore the surrounding areas. You can also choose to just laze around and soak in the beauty of this place .
Accommodation:
Family home on a working farm converted into a farmstay. What we loved was how each and every member of the family was involved in the functioning of the farm and the bed and breakfast. Our room was small but lovely with a small balcony facing the majestic mountains – dreamy! The bathroom has hot water all the time. But be sure to carry enough soap and shampoo and other toiletries that you may need.
Meals are prepared on request and prior notice. Dinner was a three-course meal for a set price of 17 euros. Experience the local cuisine prepared from freshest of ingredients! We tried the local wine too and it was delicious! Breakfast is served either inside in the dinning area or on the open air deck offering breath taking view of the surrounding mountains! Breakfast is for additional 8 euros and consists of eggs, toast, jam, honey, cheese, meats and coffee.
The common area at the entrance to the guest rooms has lot of information about the valley, culture and outdoor activities available in the region. There is also a cute little library on the first floor.
There are some board games for kids to explore in the dinning area.
There is a small stream across the house .
This place is so beautiful , we would definitely want to go back here again.
Costs:
Approximately 60-100 euros for a night.
Some special points to mention:
Make sure that if you are travelling to this region of Slovenia, you have a car. Public transport to this area not only works out more expensive, but is also infrequent and time consuming.
Spend atleast 4 days here to explore this area optimally.
