Maldives is a cluster of island in Indian ocean. If soft white sand , pristine blue water and relaxing on a hammock are your idea of holiday, then Maldives is your place! Treat to the soul and of course to the eyes! Best thing, you can definitely travel with your young ones as I dont think they will need anything more than food or sunscreen where there is so much sand to play and water to splash around.
These are all the things that you need to know before you plan the perfect break to Maldives :
1) WHEN TO VISIT:
Maldives is beautiful all year round, but its best to avoid monsoons (April to September). October to march is a better time to visit, though flights and accommodation tend to be more expensive during these months.
2) FLIGHTS:
Several airlines fly to Male from major indian cities, however the cheapest deals are usually from Kochi and Chennai. Cheapest connections usually work out to be around 13 - 15 K INR. Since the resorts are located on individual island, the transport from Male to the resort is either by speedboat or seaplane (which depends on the distance of the resort island from Male). Speedboats and seaplaneS work only duing limited hours in the day and may follow a schedule, so be sure to enquire about it with your resort. It is best to avoid late evening flight to and early morning flights out of Male.
3) RESORTS -
how to choose a resort that suits your needs and budget -
Choose the resorts that suit your budget on Agoda or Bookings. Usually Agoda offers better deals for Asia hotels/resorts. Consider the taxes that may not be included .
Check whether resort transfer is by speedboat or sea plane. Usually speed boat transfer is offered for resorts closer to Male, and hence works out to be cheaper . Seaplane transfer may significantly increase the price of your trip. Moreover seaplane ride can be a bit claustrophobic, can have a few stops before you reach your resort and have a strict luggage limit and would not be the best of the places to be with a toddler.
All inclusive package ? food and beverages including water can be very expensive in maldives , so consider opting for the all inclusive packages especially when travelling with children.
4) CURRENCY -
Maldivian Rufiyaa is the official currency, however if you are staying in the resort islands, all you need to carry are USD .
