Slovenia does not feature on the Europe travel itinerary of most Indian travelers. Not many people know enough about it. And it is definitely an underrated travel destination!
The first time I heard about Slovenia, I literally had to look for it on the map.
Most people travel to its popular neighbours, Italy and Austria and also Croatia (made poplar by GOT) and either entirely skip Slovenia , or just travel to the capital city of Ljubljana and the beautiful lake Bled. Slovenia has so much to offer!
Here is why you should plan a trip to Slovenia now!
1) Its beautiful.
Despite its small size, Slovenia offers a great variety of attractions. From city sight seeing and wine tasting to hiking in the Alps and exploring stunning caves and costal towns , Slovenia has everything! The landscape changes in a couple of hours drive , perfect for day trips from the capital city of Ljubljana.
2) Its cheap (cheaper than other European countries)
Slovenia is a part of European union, so the currency used is euro. As compared to several other european countries and capital cities, slovenia is much cheaper! Icecream will cost you 1 to 1.5 euros. Pizzas will set you back 10-12 euros. Meal at a sit down restaurant will cost around 15- 25 euros per person. Bus ticket to lake bled is 7 euros.
3) Home to a lot of adventure sports.
River rafting, paragliding, rappling, mountain biking - there are a ton of adventure sports that the country has to offer. And also probably at a more affordable rate.
4) Has something for everyone.
If you are not into outdoors and adrenaline pumping acticities, there is no shortage of things to do in Slovenia. Visit museums and castles, enjoy seafood in the coastal town of Piran, sample local wines at Vipava valley or go shopping!
5) Lot of day trip options!
Slovenia is close to famous neighbours like Italy, Austria and Czech Republic. In a couple of hours it is possible to reach any of these countries and popular destinations are very well connected to Lubljana whether you choose to ride the train , drive or fly.
6) It is still not on everybody's travel list!
Not a lot of people know about Slovenia and what a great holiday destination it is , which means most places are not overcrowded and you don't need to wait in long lines to enter a museum or castle or a 3 million years old cave.
7) Friendly locals -
Most people, especially the ones in hospitality sector, speak English. Most locals are friendly and helpful!
Slovenia is a gorgeous country and offers a variety of experience to every traveler! So plan your trip right away!
Happy travels!
